报告人简介:

Professor Akoh has a Ph.D. (1988) degree in Food Science (Food Chemistry & Biochemistry) from Washington State University. He is currently a Distinguished Research Professor, Department of Food Science & Technology at the University of Georgia.

Dr. Akoh’s research is mainly in lipid biotechnology and phytochemicals. He is an internationally recognized expert on low calorie fat substitutes and structured lipids. He edited 6 books and his “Food Lipids” book now in its 3rd Edition (2008) is used worldwide as a text book for graduate instruction. He has over 525 publications and presentations that include more than 198 refereed publications, 35 book chapters, 3 patents, 208 oral presentations, and more than 116 invited presentations. He has received over $6 million in grant money to support his research.

He is an Editorial Board member or Associate Editor of 6 journals. He became a member of the Governing Board of the American Oil Chemists’ Society (AOCS) in 2001, was elected Secretary in 2004 and reelected in 2006. He became Vice President in 2007 and AOCS President for 2008-2009.

Dr. Akoh has received many awards and recognitions that include the International Life Sciences Institute Future Leader Award in 1996-1997 for his work on structured lipids, the 1998 Institute of Food Technologists (IFT) Samuel Cate Prescott Award for Outstanding Ability in Research in Food Science and Technology, the University of Georgia 1999 Creative Research Medal Award, 2000 Gamma Sigma Delta Distinguished Senior Faculty Research Award, the 2003 D.W. Brooks Award for Excellence in Research, the 2004 American Oil Chemists’ Society Stephen S. Chang Award, and was appointed the University of Georgia Distinguished Research Professor in 2004. He also received two IFT achievement awards in 2008 (Stephen S. Chang Award; and the Research and Development Award). Dr. Akoh received the 2009 AOCS Biotechnology Division Lifetime Achievement award.  He was appointed Chair Professor at the National Chung Hsing University, Taichung, Taiwan (2008-2011). He is one of the Highly Cited scientists in Agricultural Science.

Dr. Akoh was elected Fellow of the Institute of Food Technologists in 2005, Fellow of the American Oil Chemists’ Society in 2006, and Fellow of the American Chemical Society in 2006 (Agricultural & Food Chemistry Division).
